Acorns Class (Years 1 and 2)
A Message from the Class Teachers, Mrs Wood and Mrs Renton
Welcome back Acorns!
We hope you had a fantastic Easter break and that everyone enjoyed reflecting, being thankful and celebrating with family, friends and loved ones.
Last term was a busy one! We very much enjoyed learning about the Great Fire of London and visiting Kent Life where we went back in time and met Samuel Pepys and the baker’s daughter.
The Home Learning Showcase morning was excellent, well done everyone. We loved seeing the wonderful diaries that had been kept, tasting the cakes and hearing all about what firemen do. The Easter gardens were especially beautiful! We very much look forward to the next Showcase.
We had a great time walking to Milstead Church looking for signs of Easter. We loved exploring and even learnt about some history of Milstead along the way.
Now to the Term ahead, our Topic Work will be based on ‘The Seaside’. We will begin to name and locate the world’s 7 continents and 5 oceans as well as learning about the seaside in the past.
Our Science topic this term is “Plants”. We will be learning all about the lifecycle of a plant, and what they need in order to grow. We shall be planting and growing our own plants!
In RE we will be learning about Judaism and exploring the question: ‘Who is Jewish and what do they believe?’. We will be visiting a Synagogue at the start of next term too!
If you have any special ‘Show and Tell’ items linked with our topics this term we would love to see and hear about them on a Friday afternoon!
We hope that you will find the following information useful as a reminder of some very important information:
As last term PE will take place every Wednesday afternoon, however please make sure PE kits are in school all week for any additional physical activities that may take place. Every item of PE kit (as well as uniform) must be clearly labelled with your child’s name.
The Home Learning menu for this term will be based upon our topics. We will continue to send home spellings and times tables each week on a Monday for your child to practise along with their daily reading.
The Class Penguin, Rebecca, has had some fun weekend adventures already and can’t wait for more this term!
Travelling Bear - Don’t forget to check out his diary to see exactly where (and with whom) he has been! Travelling Bear just needs a letter from the child that would like to take him on holiday with them so that he can check his diary to make sure he isn’t already away!
Good behaviour and kindness are positively encouraged in Acorn class. There are opportunities to be rewarded for good conduct and effort with house points, marbles, Marvellous Me, wrist bands and raffle tickets.
For further information, please don’t forget to look at the school’s website, where you can find lots of useful information. As always if you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Acorn staff team.
Thank you for helping us by supporting your child’s learning both at school and at home, which is invaluable to their continued progress.
The Acorn team consists of:
Mrs Wood (Mon – Wed) & Mrs Renton (Thu – Fri) – Class Teachers
Mrs Wrigglesworth & Mrs Archer – Teaching Assistants
Mrs Brown – Higher Learning Teaching Assistant (HLTA) (Monday and Thursday)
